Program Description

The Workforce Development Program houses most of our education and training activities. It ensures CTSI trainees acquire the core competencies needed to conduct multidisciplinary research and to integrate community priorities and input into research across the T1 to T4 spectrum.

The Program emphasizes three key areas:
  • Training and consultation in entrepreneurship and the product commercialization process
  • Informatics training for investigators and faculty at all levels of experience
  • Training and certification in good clinical practices for all research staff
The Workforce Development Program integrates with the CTSI KL2 training program for junior faculty and the TL1 training programs for pre-doctoral students and health professional students. This is accomplished through externships in industry, government and the not-for-profit health sectors as well as lectures and coursework offered by the Training Program in Translational Science.

The Workforce Development Program interacts closely with the Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design (BERD) Program, the Team Science Program, and the Community Engagement and Research Program, each of which offer separate education and training activities.

Program Aim

The aim of the Workforce Development Program is to ensure that the translational science workforce has the skills and knowledge to advance translation of discoveries.  The program has two primary objectives:
  • Objective 1: Prepare individuals involved in translational research to perform their duties in compliance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • Objective 2: Enhance successful educational programs with training in entrepreneurship and informatics and experiential learning opportunities in the public and private sectors.
