Washington, D.C., March 22, 2016--The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Board of Governors authorized providing $12.5 million for five Patient-Powered Research Network (PPRN) demonstration projects. CTSI investigator, Bowen Chung, MD, MS, an Assistant Professor in-Residence in the Department of Psychiatry at UCLA, leads one of five projects awarded. The UCLA-based project will receive $2.5 million to use engagement and education methods to help reduce depression in gay, lesbian, and bisexual populations.
The PPRN awards are the latest issued as part of PCORI's National Patient-Centered Clinical Research Network, or PCORnet, initiative. PCORnet aims to harness the power of health data and patient partnerships to allow the nation to conduct patient-centered comparative effectiveness research (CER) more efficiently, with greater power and at lower cost than previously possible.
