Society of General Internal Medicine Honors CTSI Program Leaders Carol Mangione and Arleen Brown

At its annual meeting in April, the Society of General Internal Medicine honored Dr. Carol Mangione, leader of the CTSI Workforce Development Program, and Dr. Arleen Brown, leader of the CTSI Community Engagement and Research Program.

Dr. Mangione received the John M. Eisenberg National Award for Career Achievement in Research, which recognizes a senior member whose innovative research has changed patient care, the conduct of research, or the way students are educated. The award is named in memory of a former director of the Agency of Healthcare Research and Quality.

Dr. Brown received the Herbert W. Nickens Minority Health and Representation in Medicine Award. The award honors an individual or representative of an organization who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to cultural diversity in medicine or to improving minority health. The award is named in memory of a former director of the federal Office of Minority Health. Dr. Nickens also was the first vice president and director of the division of community and minority programs of the American Association of Medical Colleges.
