UCLA researchers and their partners across Los Angeles County were awarded $11 million from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) to fund research on community-based interventions aimed at reducing the higher rates of stroke and death from stroke among disadvantaged Hispanics, African Americans and Asian Americans.

A CTSI Team Science Award of $150,000 to Barbara Vickery, MD, MPH, vice chair and professor of neurology at the David Geffen School of Medicine, enabled the team to obtain data in support of the successful NINDS application. Future CTSI involvement will include the participation of program trainees in the CTSI training curriculum and the expertise of CTSI community engagement leadership in community activities.
