CTSI announces CTRC-Westwood seed grant awardees
The Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC) Seed Grants provide investigators funding for pilot studies that utilize CTRC services and facilities at UCLA-Westwood. Those projects are expected to secure independent funding from a government agency or private foundation, make significant use of the Westwood CTRC services, especially nursing and nutrition, and result in at least one peer-reviewed publication.
The following four projects were selected in January 2014:
PI: Simon Beaven, MD (Medicine, Digestive Diseases/Gastroenterology)
1. Project Title: "Development of a Novel Biomarker for Liver Fibrosis"
PI: Sahib Khalsa, MD, PhD (Psychiatry, UCLA Anxiety Disorders Clinic)
2. Project Title: "A new anxiety treatment through augmented interoceptive exposure training."
PI: Christian Roberts, PhD (Nursing, Translational Sciences Section)
3. Project Title: "Effects of Exercise Training on Cardiac Structure and Function in Prediabetes Using 3D Cardiac MRI Technology"
PI: Jennie Tsao, PhD (Pediatrics, UCLA Pediatric Pain Program) and Kirsten Tillisch, MD (Medicine, Digestive Diseases/Gastroenterology)
4. Project Title: "Brain connectivity and structure, pain inhibition, and gut microbiota in pediatric irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)"
