A CTSI-supported clinic model led by Dr. Richard Leuchter and his research team was highlighted as a top story in the August 2025 issue of the NIH NCATS Coordination, Communication, and Operations Support (CCOS) website. CCOS' new hub spotlight series highlights innovative research coming out of the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) program.

Dr. Leuchter and his research team developed the Next Day Clinic (NDC) in order to address national hospital bed shortages. The NDC model aims to reduce the burden on emergency departments by offering timely acute outpatient care. This approach not only helps alleviate the national emergency room bed shortage but also curbs unnecessary spending and promotes high-value, patient-centered care.

The NIH spotlight recognizes UCLA CTSI’s commitment to advancing translational research and developing scalable solutions to improve access and efficiency.
