Get the clinical data you need.

The Biomedical Informatics Program (BIP) at UCLA CTSI The Biomedical Informatics Program (BIP) at UCLA CTSI provides data provisioning services to support clinical and translational research.

Researchers can request structured or unstructured health data derived from the electronic health records from March 2013 to present, including medical information, demographics, insurance information, orders, notes, impressions/reports and social determinants of health. A consultant will help you define the needed elements to achieve the objectives of your research project and a programmer will pull the requested data set and deliver it to the recommended storage location.  Data is provisioned into ULCA Health HIPAA compliant enclaves that offer a variety of research analytic tools.  These services encompass the end-to-end process of provisioning structured and unstructured health data to support approved research needs.

Project-Based Flat Rates

  • Small Project (up to 15 hours): $2,500
  • Medium Project (up to 20 hours): $5,000
  • Large Project (up to 55 hours): $10,000

Projects expected to exceed these hour thresholds will be provided an individualized scope of work. Any additional hours beyond the agreed-upon scope will be billed at $150/hour.

A cost estimate can be provided based on the research purpose and anticipated data elements. All rates are subject to periodic review and adjustment.

CTSI Voucher Support

Study teams may request a CTSI voucher to cover some or all of the associated project costs.

Data Release

UCLA Health faculty members may establish Third-Party Health Data Agreements with any for-profit or not-for-profit entity outside UCLA Health. The agreements allow faculty members to partner with third parties and share UCLA health data for projects that have the potential to improve human health and benefit society. The Biomedical Informatics Program (BIP) at UCLA CTSI provides the governance, risk and compliance services required to support the sharing of UCLA health data with third parties. Services encompass the end-to-end process for the review and approval of sharing structured and unstructured UCLA health data to support collaborative research projects.  Cost recovery is a mandated term for sharing data outside of the health system. A flat rate of $2,500 will apply.

Collaborative Networks

PCORnet

  • Funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), PCORnet is a national “network of networks” that provides access to real-world data through its eight PCORnet Clinical Research Networks (CRNs). CRNs are groups of diverse healthcare institutions across the U.S., from large academic health centers to local community clinics, that are united by a commitment to speed patient-centered research. Through PCORnet, researchers can identify trial sites, request EHR data from institutions across the network, and find or become study collaborators. To learn more or begin your collaboration with PCORnet, submit a request by emailing pcornetgpc@mednet.ucla.edu or visit PCORnet.

GPC

  • UCLA is a member of the Greater Plains Collaborative (GPC), which is one of the clinical research networks that comprises PCORnet. This network brings together a diverse population of over 34 million patients from 14 health systems across 9 different states, all committed to a shared vision of improving healthcare delivery through ongoing learning, adoption of evidence-based practices, and active research dissemination. Through GPC, researchers can identify trial sites, request EHR data from institutions across the network, and find or become study collaborators. Moreover, GPC also offers the ability to link EHR data to Medicare claims data. To learn more or begin your collaboration with GPC, submit a request by emailing pcornetgpc@mednet.ucla.edu or visiting the GPC Network.
