Attendees post for photo at CERP's Motherboard event

On September 28, the UCLA CTSI Community and Engagement Research Program (CERP) supported the evaluation and year-end celebration event for MotherBoard: A Family Affair, which aims to empower Black mothers, families, and communities. The event celebrated MotherBoard's first paid consultant cohort for the 2024-2025 year, consisting of Black mothers collaborating on healing, advocacy, and sustainable systems change to create a more just and equitable world for Black mothers and their babies. MotherBoard partners with government agencies, philanthropic organizations, and institutions to co-design strategies centered on community needs.

Over the past year, the inaugural MotherBoard cohort has successfully organized seven public educational workshops that reached 150 Black mothers and families, covering topics such as financial abundance, healthy movement, advocacy in medicine, and self-care. These workshops were conducted in partnership with the California Abundant Birth Project. Additionally, the cohort supported policy collaboration at the Sacramento Pain to Power advocacy day in favor of SB 626 and drafted a housing policy advocacy letter in collaboration with Black Women for Wellness. CERP partners and staff were in attendance, including (L-R) Diamond Lee, Savanna Carson, Brianna Smith, and Dana Beck.
