On January 20, UCLA Health and the David Geffen School of Medicine announced that Arash Naeim, MD, PhD, will serve as the Associate Dean for Clinical Research (ADCR) for the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. In this role, he will report to the Vice Dean for Research and will work with DGSOM leadership to further develop and expand initiatives for clinical research in support of the UCLA Health mission.

As a Professor in Medicine in the Divisions of Hematology-Oncology and Geriatrics, Dr. Naeim has provided leadership as an Associate Director in the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. He serves as a Co-Director of the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and as Associate Director of the UCLA Institute for Precision Health. He has led UCLA’s participation in the UC-Wide Athens Breast Cancer Screening Registry and PCORI-funded WISDOM Trial investigating risk-based cancer screening incorporating imaging and genomics.

Dr. Naeim has provided leadership and service as the Chief Medical Officer for Clinical Research (CMO-CR) for UCLA Health, expanding the infrastructure and services available in support of faculty performing clinical research. His role as CMO-CR has complemented his activities as the Physician Informaticist responsible for the Clinical Research Applications.

With his appointment as ADCR, Dr. Naeim will continue his current CMO-CR role overseeing the UCLA Office of Clinical Research while continuing to align and lead the institutional strategy and vision for clinical research among the campus, DGSOM, and the UCLA Health System. He will work with the departments, institutes, centers, and research themes, to enhance communications, business development, finance, infrastructure, and informatics strategies that will ensure that UCLA remains a national and international leader in clinical research.

We would like to thank the members of the search committee, chaired by Dr. Paul Boutros (Human Genetics, Urology), and including Drs. Lin Chang (Medicine/Digestive Diseases), Karol Watson (Medicine/Cardiology), Holly Middlekauf (Medicine/Cardiology, Physiology), Alejandra Casillas (Medicine/General Internal Medicine, Health Services Research), and Mike Teitell (Pathology, Pediatrics).

On behalf of UCLA Health, please join us in welcoming Dr. Naeim as Associate Dean for Clinical Research.
