Dr. Arleen Brown helps administer COVID-19 vaccine to California state officials

On April 1, Dr. Arleen Brown, associate director of the CTSI and co-leader of the CTSI Community Engagement and Research Program, joined California Governor Gavin Newsom, Mayor of Los Angeles Eric Garcetti, California Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly, Government Operations Agency Secretary Yolanda Richardson, other state and local government officials, as well as local community members at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mobile Vaccination Clinic in South LA, where Governor Newsom received his Johnson and Johnson vaccine, the first day he was eligible. Starting April 1, Californians over 50 years of age became eligible to receive a vaccine.

Dr. Ghaly administered Governor Newsom’s vaccine, and Dr. Brown administered Secretary Richardson’s. Local community leaders, Mayor Garcetti, Secretary Richardson, and Governor Newsom held a press conference afterwards about the current status and expected supply of vaccines in the state.

As of April 1, California has administered more than 18 million doses, and 6.7 million people are fully vaccinated. The state has nearly 40 million residents. With LA County resident aged 16 or older becoming eligible on April 15, more Californians are now officially eligible to receive their vaccinations. To make an appointment, visit myturn.ca.gov.
