UCLA CDI sixth annual symposium focuses on novel therapeutics
CTSI co-sponsored the sixth annual UCLA Children's Discovery and Innovation Institute (CDI) Symposium on May 29, 2019 at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Each year the event is intended to generate cross-campus collaborations to advance translational child health research. This year's symposium theme highlighted novel therapeutics and featured keynote speaker, Dr. Megan Levings, from University of British Columbia, and two distinguished UCLA speakers, Drs. Thomas Graeber and Jeff Miller. Four pediatric fellows were also selected to present their research: second year fellows, Drs. Kathryn Bradford (pediatric hematology/oncology) and Mona Guglielmo (pediatric critical care), and third year fellows, Drs. Liesbeth Maggiotto (neonatology) and Shweta Namjoshi (pediatric gastroenterology).
The event garnered 150 participants and included a research poster session, a special announcement on the 2019 Research Recognition Awards and a reception. The 2019 Research Recognition awardees were second year resident, Esther Kim, and third year residents, Alvin Chan and Katie Strobel.
For a complete list of poster presenters, see the symposium pamphlet. Visit the UCLA CDI Annual Symposium webpage for more information on the event. Preliminary data indicates that 71% of attendees feel the symposium might lead to new collaborations with researchers and 95% rated the symposium to be excellent or very good.
The UCLA CDI Institute is the research home of the Pediatrics Department and encourages multidisciplinary child health research and training at UCLA across the spectrum of basic, translational, clinical and health services research.
