White House OSTP moves to increase access to research results
The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) on Feb. 22 directed federal agencies with more than $100M in R&D expenditures to develop plans to make the published results of federally funded research freely available to the public within one year of publication and to require researchers to better account for and manage the digital data resulting from federally funded scientific research. This builds on the NIH Public Access policy but also requires agencies to address access to digital data. The emphasis on data is consistent with aspects of the report of the NIH Advisory Committee to the Director Working Group on Data and Informatics. The memo can be found at by clicking on this link.
