Collaborative Pathways for Innovation (CPI) Program

Program Overview
The Collaborative Pathways for Innovation (CPI) in the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI)’s Grants Submission Unit (GSU) is dedicated to fostering workforce inclusivity within the research environment that reflects the belief that healthcare is a human right. This initiative, with the support of multiple DGSOM departments, aims to support the next generations of researchers while identifying and championing collaborative pathways for innovation.
By leveraging multiple successful inclusive excellence initiatives across UCLA, CTSI, and the DGSOM, the program is designed to empower all emerging scientists, early-stage investigators, and junior faculty by lowering the administrative barrier to participating in research.
Research Access and Innovation Cohort:
As we plan ahead, we are excited to begin the early stages of creating the Research Access and Innovation Cohort, tasked with meaningful collaborative guidance of the program’s goals and objectives, and pooling resources together that funnels to the program’s participants and strengthens impact for early career researchers and the next generations of UCLA’s future faculty leaders.
Goals and Objectives
The program’s primary objective is to provide consistent grant submission support to developing researchers from all backgrounds who may face challenges in accessing traditional research opportunities and resources. Our goal is to provide consistent grant submission support for developing researchers of all backgrounds for successful careers to create a more representative research workforce.
As the program evolves, we aim to:
- Make GSU, CTSI, and DGSOM researcher resources available to participants for submitting grant applications
- Strengthen collaborations with faculty, scientists, and established partners to drive program growth
- Connect early-stage investigators, junior faculty, and future scholars with experienced mentors
- Facilitate partnerships between junior faculty and mentors at UCLA and affiliate sites
- Provide support through GSU services to help mentorship pairs identify and secure funding opportunities
- Provide grants submission support that helps lower the administrative barrier to pursue innovative research
