For more than 60 years, the Department of Medicine at UCLA has engaged in world-class medical research, teaching, and patient care. Across 18 sub-specialties, its physicians are world-renowned experts in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of complex and routine illnesses. UCLA investigators are situated within the following divisions and centers: Cardiology, CARE Center, Center for East-West Medicine, Clinical Immunology and Allergy, Clinical Nutrition, Dermatology, Digestive Diseases / Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, General Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Hematology Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Med-Peds, Nano Medicine, Nephrology, Pulmonology / Pulmonary and Rheumatology.

The Department of Medicine provides care to patients throughout the greater Los Angeles area and beyond. The Department takes great pride in its achievements, but most importantly in its commitment to advancing health equity while training future leaders in internal medicine. The Divisions and Centers of the DOM provide world-class patient care, conduct cutting-edge research, and offer training opportunities with world-renowned faculty experts. The DOM strives to be a leader in innovation as well as education and training. The Department offers a wide variety of Fellowship and Residency Programs to interested physicians willing to further their education and training.

The DOM has grown to become the largest department of medicine in the UC system. It has one of the largest NIH funding portfolios in the country and 7 of its clinical programs are nationally ranked within the top 10 in the 2021-2022 U.S. News & World Report.
