The Team Science Program augments the translational mission by continuing to develop new theoretical and evidence-based tools to improve, assess, and evaluate the capacity of interdisciplinary and translational science teams to effectively combine team members’ broad array of expertise. The program specifically conducts research to understand the characteristics of high-performing teams. The impact of differences among team members in experience, background, culture, and disciplines are being studied. Program leaders adapt their training for academic community teams to provide novel training in communication and collaboration. To facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration, the UCLA CTSI has redesigned the Pilot Translational & Clinical Studies Program to exclusively support team science.

The program offers consultations to offer expert guidance on how to enhance a team, including the formation and launch of a team, how to manage conflict within a team, improving team communication, leadership coaching, and more.
