Diabetes is one of the most important health disparities in Los Angeles County. Diabetes can cause severe complications, including cardiovascular disease, renal insufficiency, neuropathy, amputations, retinopathy, and even blindness. Diabetes disproportionately affects the poor and minorities, including African-Americans and Hispanics, and treatment of diabetes has been shown to reduce complications in a cost-effective manner. The Los Angeles County DHS 8th Annual Diabetes Day is a day-long conference devoted to providing health care providers updated information on the care of patients with diabetes, with the goal of improving patients’ glycemic control and preventing diabetes complications in this severely underserved community. The 8th Annual Meeting is scheduled for December 6, 2021, and will consist of didactic lectures in the morning, as well as smaller breakout sessions in the afternoon.
