The Opportunity of AI

In today's rapidly evolving healthcare landscape, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare holds promise to revolutionize patient care, clinical research, training programs, and healthcare operations. However, there remains a knowledge gap among many healthcare professionals, academics, and researchers on how best to leverage AI effectively while ensuring safety, privacy, and equity. Healthcare must adapt quickly to the rapid advancements in AI, which is outpacing most expectations due to massive advances in computational power. The rise of AI is not just a challenge but an opportunity—to redefine roles, improve patient care, and bring clinical practice into a new era of precision, effectiveness, and equity. The symposium, Biomedical AI in Action: Practical Workshops for Clinical and Research Transformation, aims to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice by offering a unique platform for hands-on learning, idea development, and interdisciplinary collaboration supported by all four partner sites of the UCLA Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI)—UCLA, Cedars-Sinai, Charles Drew University and The Lundquist Institute/Harbor-UCLA.

Program Objectives

Skill Building: Through workshop sessions led by AI and healthcare experts, attendees will gain hands-on experience in AI technologies such as machine learning, natural language processing, data analytics, and generative transformers employing large language models (LLMs), all tailored to healthcare applications.

Collaborative Opportunities: Facilitated networking sessions and interdisciplinary panel discussions will foster meaningful connections among clinical professionals, computer scientists, data analysts, and policymakers.

Innovation & Ideation: Ideation labs and brainstorming sessions will inspire attendees to think creatively about new ways to implement AI in healthcare, from improving patient outcomes to optimizing hospital operations.

Career Advancement & Professional Growth: The event will serve as a platform for attendees to enhance their professional profiles and learn about emerging career paths in the intersection of AI and healthcare. Personal development sessions will be aimed at providing insights into translating AI skills into career opportunities and advancement within their respective fields.  CE credit will incentivize participation.

Research & Development Support: The event will introduce a framework for attendees to access resources and support for developing AI-based research projects. This will include information on grant writing, insights on current funding opportunities, and strategies for forming research partnerships and collaborations that can lead to groundbreaking work in the application of AI to medicine.

Anticipated Impact

Knowledge Dissemination: Attendees will leave with a foundational understanding of AI technologies and their potential applications in healthcare settings.

Future Collaborations: The program aims to incubate long-term interdisciplinary projects and partnerships that will push the boundaries of AI in healthcare.

Inspired Innovation: By bringing together a diverse group of professionals with varying skill sets, the Medical AI Bootcamp will serve as a catalyst for innovative solutions to some of healthcare's most pressing challenges.
