LA BioMed honored endocrinologist Dr. Christina Wang as one of its 2018 Legends for her scientific leadership in the effort to develop a safe, effective and reversible male contraceptive. An associate director of the UCLA CTSI since 2011, Dr. Wang facilitates clinical and translation research at the Torrance-based research institute.

The annual Legends award honors LA BioMed researchers for their groundbreaking discoveries and commitment to finding solutions to the world's most urgent medical problems. Honored along with Dr. Wang were Dr. Ira Lesser, chair of the Department of Psychiatry, who has conducted federally funded clinical studies on depression and is active concerning the well-being of trainees and staff, and Dr. Anita Nelson, who, in addition to serving as Principal Investigator for many NIH contraceptive trials, led LA BioMed’s Women’s Healthcare Clinic, providing free medical services to underserved women. She also spearheaded the evolution and growth of the Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program.

The Legends ceremony was held Nov. 8.
