UCLA Biodesign hub receives I6 challenge grant
Showing a commitment to translate innovations and applied research into advancements in patient care, UCLA is among the awardees of the 2019 U.S. Economic Development Administration Regional Innovation Strategies (RIS) program competition.
The EDA press release announced that 26 i6 Challenge grantees were funded along with 18 Seed Fund Support recipients. The RIS portfolio represents a catalytic, nationwide program designed to fuel high-growth entrepreneurship and increase access to capital for communities across America.
The UCLA award includes $750,000 in matching funds from EDA.
UCLA will lead the UCLA Biodesign Hub for Medical Technology (MedTech) and Digital Health Innovation through the establishment of a robust regional network, advancement of early stage technology with commercialization potential, and domain-specific training for aspiring clinical and technical entrepreneurs.
Jennifer McCaney, executive director of the UCLA Biodesign Program and assistant director of UCLA CTSI, serves as co-principal investigator on the grant.
