A scientific team from UCLA, Boston Children's Hospital and University of Cincinnati has received a $6.7-million five-year CTSA Collaborative Innovation Award (CCIA) to develop a network of pediatric centers with expertise and experience in translation of gene therapies. The network, to be administered from Boston Children's Hospital, will support investigators across CTSA institutions to more rapidly translate complex gene therapies to early phase investigator-initiated pediatric clinical trials. Donald Kohn, professor of microbiology, immunology and molecular genetics and pediatrics and director of the UCLA Human Gene Medicine Program, is the principal investigator at UCLA.
CCIA are designed to stimulate team-based research across the CTSA network. CCIA projects are intended to foster research collaboration by encouraging teams from three or more CTSA Program hubs to work together to develop, demonstrate and disseminate innovative, experimental approaches to overcoming translational science roadblocks.
