About

The National Center for Engagement in Diabetes Equity Research (CEDER) is committed to advancing research that addresses diabetes equity by encouraging and fostering long-term, comprehensive partnerships between community organizations, healthcare organizations, and academic institutions across the United States.

Partnering institutions

  • Albert Einstein College of Medicine
  • NYU Grossman School of Medicine
  • UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine

We represent a partnership of 10 regional and national community-based organizations and 18 academic institutions, including schools of public health, schools of medicine, and minority-serving institutions. We build upon these long-standing partnerships and the breadth of our expertise to catalyze collaborations and partnerships in diabetes research and programming between community organizations, health systems, and researchers across diverse communities and settings.

Our Vision

The vision of CEDER is to foster community-led and -informed type 2 diabetes equity research.

Our Aims

  • Strengthen established community partnerships to create a national network of infrastructure to foster equitable engagement in type 2 diabetes research.
  • Promote diverse community engagement and equity through a partnership hub model that will integrate social determinants of health and equity frameworks to inform research.
  • Improve type 2 diabetes research uptake through a studio and consultancy model that emphasizes co-leadership among community, healthcare, municipal and research partners.
  • Collaborate with researchers across multiple groups to share best practices and lessons learned in community engagement across the type 2 diabetes research spectrum.
