Navigating an NIH Gene Therapy Trial
Lynndrick Holmes shares his battle with sickle cell disease
On March 21, 2024, the CTSI Community Engagement & Research Program (CERP) was honored to have a powerful and overwhelmingly successful discussion with Lynndrick Holmes regarding his journey to fight an invisible disease while navigating challenges within the US health system. Moderated by CERP team member Ejiro Ntekume, Mr. Holmes discussed entrusting his health and faith in a lifesaving clinical trial with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that reverted his chronic sickle cell disease.
Lynndrick also provided helpful insight for healthcare provider and others in the audience, stating: "Lean on the science." He expressed the importance of providers approaching patient medical concerns scientifically. He also parted with hopes of cultural humility being more prevalent in health care delivery with the understanding that everyone responds to pain differently.
Learn more about Mr. Holmes' journey published in the NY Times.
