A. Background diagram

Mentors are expected to actively participate in recruitment. Required by most training grants, this document should address:

  • Note: This component was formerly part of the 25-page program plan, but as of January 2025 is now a separate document.
  • Proposed Plans: Describe plans to identify and recruit a diverse cohort of trainees during the proposed award period
    • Consider the success and/or failures of past recruitment strategies
    • Describe specific efforts to be undertaken and how these relate to recruitment efforts of the medical school, graduate school, and the university at large
    • Highlight efforts to recruit from diverse institutions
    • Note: Just describing institutional recruitment practices alone will not be sufficient to satisfy this requirement
    • Training grant faculty are expected to be actively involved in recruitment efforts
  • For New Applications only: Describe plans to enhance recruitment as the program progresses with specific strategies to target trainees from underrepresented groups
  • For Renewal Applications only: Describe in detail experiences in recruiting trainees from underrepresented groups during the previous funding period, including what was successful and unsuccessful; note how the proposed plan reflects the program’s past experiences in recruiting individuals from underrepresented groups; reference information from Table 7
